“Shiluv” Institute
for Family and Couple Therapy in Jerusalem
The “Shiluv” Institute for Family and Couple Therapy is a non-profit [AC1] organization which provides emotional and mental assistance to families in jerusalem and its periphery. The “Shiluv” Institute is renowned for its expertise in the fields of family and couple therapy among the professional community and is considered one of the leading institutes in its field.
The Institute was founded in 1971 in Jerusalem. And was the first institute in Israel providing family therapy.
The work of our therapeutic team creates an encounter of different worldviews, professional theories and a variety of therapeutic techniques and practices. While providing each patient with the best care and attention to his/her personal history, needs and emotional state. The Shiluv institute works to heal and aid families as a whole, rather than focusing solely on our patient’s inner world and isolating them as individuals, we tend to view them as family members and treat families as an inseparable part of the treatment.
Currently our therapeutic team consists of 25 therapists. All of which are experts in the fields of family and couple therapy and have many years of therapeutic experience in a wide range of cases. Each of our therapist is carefully selected based on stringent threshold conditions. Additionally, periodical counseling sessions are held for the team at the Institute for the purpose of mutual professional productivity, while undergoing a constant learning process.
The “Shiluv” Institute motto is ‘making couple and family treatment accessible for everyone’. The Institute therefore provides its services at a sliding scale, which depends on each family’s income.
The Shiluv Institute, established in Jerusalem in 1971, has been dedicated since its inception to ensuring as its core principle the accessibility of couple and family therapy services for everyone.
The institute, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting families in the realm of mental health, offers its services at varying costs, primarily subsidized, tailored to the income of each family.
We are convinced that providing high-quality and accessible therapy can have a significant impact on the lives of both children and adults, reducing collateral damage and fostering recovery and growth.
Within the institute’s structure, specific frameworks are established to address the needs of families and individuals coping with trauma, families navigating issues related to sexual assault, and families with young children experiencing trauma and stress within the family environment. Furthermore, as one of the pioneers in family therapy in Israel and a prominent institute in the field, the Shiluv Institute actively works to advance the expertise of family and couple therapy within the professional community.
The teamwork employed at the institute represents a convergence of perspectives, professional theories, and therapeutic techniques. Presently, the therapeutic team comprises approximately 25 therapists, all accomplished experts in the field of family and couple therapy, each with extensive experience across a diverse range of cases. Every therapist is selected based on rigorous criteria, and they are supported in their work by experienced professional mentors. Moreover, the institute conducts team counseling meetings to foster mutual enrichment within an ongoing and continuous learning process.

"Nitzanim" - therapy for families with children aged 0 - 9
Toddlers and young children who have experienced trauma or stressful situations in the family are not necessarily perceived by their family as requiring therapy. Many people are convinced that young children are not affected by what is happening around them, or that they do not remember events which occurred when they were young. Research and experience indicate that this assumption is not correct, and it could even be dangerous.
Today we know that early intervention is critical for a child’s healthy development.
If you are concerned about your child’s emotional state or their behavior, give us a call and we’ll help you figure things out

Family Mediation
The Mediation unit at the “Shiluv” Institute has been operating for more than twenty years and has gained experience in successful mediation processes with hundreds of families.
The principle we adhere to – in the event of disagreements – is that it is almost always advisable to first try to conduct a dialogue before resorting to legal proceedings.
This perception is also now part of the legal system itself, which allows for proceedings to be opened in the Family Court only if the attempt to resolve the dispute by other means has already been exhausted.
If you are considering dialogue and mediation rather than appealing for legal action, click below for further details.

Trauma Center - individual treatment
Trauma may result after one has experienced a difficult event, which then generates a sense of threat, and is accompanied by a feeling of fear and helplessness. Trauma can be described as a negative event from the past, which takes over the present, and affects the future. Experiences such as a car accident, the death of someone close, sexual assault, a terrorist attack, incidents which occur during military service, a serious injury or illness – all of these and more can leave a mark on the human psyche, which can be defined as trauma.
Traumatic events do not necessarily have to paralyze our lives. With the help of therapy, it is possible to process the experiences and the subsequent reactions and feeling, learning how to live a healthy and functional life. It is also possible to discover new things about ourselves, and the wonderful things we are capable of.

Therapy for sexual assault
The unit for the treatment of sexual assault was founded in 1998 by members of the staff at the “Shiluv” Institute, who were responding to the need of some families referred for treatment – and recognized the fact that treating this particular issue requires a level of expertise. Whenever possible we also treat the entire family – the victim, the abuser and the rest of the family.
