About the mediation process

The Mediation unit at the “Shiluv” Institute has been operating for more than twenty years and has accumulated experience in successful mediation processes with hundreds of families.

The principle we adhere to – in the event of disagreements – is that it is almost always advisable to first try to conduct a dialogue before resorting to legal proceedings.

This perception is also now part of the legal system itself, which allows for proceedings to be opened in the Family Court only if the attempt to resolve the dispute by other means has already been exhausted.

The mediation unit integrates a variety of legal therapeutic aspects. It is headed by Moshe Erlendur Okon, an Attorney and a Notary Public who is certified by the Ministry of Justice for Enduring Power of Attorney.

If you are considering dialogue and mediation rather than opting for legal action, click below for further details.

The activities of the unit are as follows:

  • Drawing up agreements for mutual respect, financial and monetary agreements, pre-nuptial agreements and agreements between common-law couples, including issues of joint parenting;
  • Drafting agreements for temporary separation and addressing the legal and economic issues that result from the separation;
  • Drawing up divorce agreements that include matters relating to parenting, division of property, etc. These agreements comply with the judicial requirements in the Family Court or in the Rabbinical Court;
  • Drawing up agreements on the matter of division of parenting time with children after separation or divorce, when the life circumstances of the parents or the children undergo a change;
  • Assistance and counseling in other family disputes, such as matters of inheritance, caring for elderly parents, and so on and so forth;
  • Assistance and advice in the preparation of an Enduring Power of Attorney, preliminary guidelines for the appointment of a Guardian and an ‘Expression of Wishes’ document pursuant to the new amendment to the Legal Capacity & Guardianship Law, and in the preparation of preliminary medical guidelines pursuant to the Terminally Ill Patient Law;
  • Conducting workshops and courses both within the Institute and by invitation externally, on the subject of family law and mediation.
