FEEDBACK FROM CLIENTS & STUDENTS AT SHILUV
“My family took part in family/couples therapy at Shiluv for almost a year. We were referred to Shiluv by the social worker at my place of work in one of the government’s ministries.
Both my husband and I agree that our therapist was an excellent one. She enabled us to see our problems and concerns in a clearer light and gave us direction in finding solutions to the many issues that confronted our family.
The therapist was knowledgeable in issues concerning children, behavior, education, mental health and learning disabilities. Where she did not have a precise expertise, she was able to refer us to an appropriate expert.
Both my husband and I applaud Shiluv for giving the opportunity for such professional therapists to work with families in need.”
“I recently completed the 3-year intensive training program in family therapy at Shiluv. The experience and knowledge that I gathered during the course have given me the confidence to handle complicated family issues that frequently arise in my work as a social worker in the local welfare board. Shiluv’s practical approach in teaching family system’s therapy is done in a supportive way that takes into consideration both the skills and strengths of each student.
I enjoyed learning with supervisors of such high professional caliber who joyfully imparted their knowledge and experience.
I would like to add that the workshops given during my training, such as “Beginning to Work
with Families”, “Narrative Therapy”, and “Treating Adolescents” provided an indispensable forum for viewing specific topics within the general picture. I warmly recommend to any professional wanting to obtain skills in family therapy to go through the training program at Shiluv.”
STAFF HIGHLIGHTS
Anat Goldstein presented her work on Family Group Conference (a process whereby the extended family makes a treatment plan that addresses the child at risk) at the Expert Seminar on Alternative Means to Retributive Justice in Violent Conflict in the Middle East in Istanbul, Turkey. Anat was the only female participant among representatives from Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Jordan, Egypt, and Israel.
Michal Benninga has been invited to discuss the issues of death and mourning on Maale Adumim”s local radio station. The station invites professionals to address topics of interest to the public and Shiluv will be involved in future programs as well.
Moti Kellner, who is also involved in work with recovering alcoholics and gamblers, did a workshop for the staff on compulsive gambling. In addition to the didactic material, a recovering gambler came to speak to the staff and answer questions about his experience. The workshop was very informative.
After last year’s successful theoretical course on Family Therapy, this year David Levenstein is teaching a course on Couples’ Therapy.
