The Mediation Unit
Coordinator – Moshe Erlendur Okon, LL.B., M.A.
One cannot open a professional journal today without some reference being made to mediation. In the past two years the number of mediation centers in Israel has quadrupled. At Shiluv, we have always dedicated ourselves to being up-to-date and providing a place where couples can address their problems. With the growing number of divorces and the impact of a difficult divorce on the children and the couple itself (not to mention the exorbitant cost), more and more people are turning to mediation. No divorce is painless, but mediation may make it less painful.
Our Mediation Unit for Divorcing Couples opened in January 2000. Our staff members – Moshe Erlendur Okon, Irene Groffsky Wernik and Anat Goldstein – have trained in divorce mediation. Moshe Erlendur Okon, a well trained and dedicated lawyer, has joined the teamed as a co-mediator. Each session is run by one of our therapists together with the lawyer. When mediation has successfully been completed, the formal divorce agreement is drawn up by the lawyer.
Family Mediation
Besides helping couples reach a “better” divorce the Divorce Mediation Unit offers additional mediation services in the following cases: couples interested in writing a pre-nuptial agreement, couples who have separated and want to resolve problems that have arisen around custody and visitation rights, couples who have decided to divorce.
