Shiluv, a recognized non-profit organization, is a family and couple therapy institute that was founded in 1971. It was created with the idea of focusing on the family as a system that affects the functioning of its members. We wanted to use the resources of the family in treating problems that may have manifested themselves in any one of the family members: school problems, behavior problems, eating disorders, parental inadequacies, drug, sex, alcohol abuse, depression, incest, marital conflict, suicide attempts, trauma, etc. The wide diversity of Jerusalem’s population is reflected in the families seeking our help. They come from different backgrounds: cultural, socio-economic, and religious.
The family was seen as an organic unit that needed to be understood in order to treat the identified problems. Until today, Shiluv is a proponent of these principles. Our staff embodies a variety of worldviews, theories and therapeutic techniques. Their common bond, however, is a family systems therapy approach, with special attention given to the inner world of the client, his/her feelings, needs and personal history. We offer our services, in half a dozen languages, to the population of Jerusalem as well as its surrounding environs.
Shiluv has a distinguished board of trustees who actively support and work with the staff.
Another guiding principle of Shiluv was the need to make highly professional treatment available at a cost that a working family could afford. Therefore, the fees for families have always been determined on a sliding scale according to income. Eight years ago, we took this principle one step further and decided to offer special subsidies (above and beyond those given on the sliding scale) to families with children at risk (suicidal children, severe cases of abuse, e.g. incest). We see on the average 320 families a year.
In 1978, Shiluv inaugurated its Training Center. We have programs on site for individual professionals who come for their own development. We also create training programs to meet the needs of social service agencies and psychiatric settings in the Jerusalem area.

שילוב, מוסד ללא כוונות רווח, מעניק שירותי ייעוץ וטיפול לתושבי ירושלים מאז שנת 1971 המטופלים משתייכים לכל גווני הקשת החברתית בישראל, לכל העדות, הזרמים והשכבות הסוציו-אקונומיות.
הגישה של שילוב רואה במשפחה מערכת, שיש לחזק את תפקודם של הפרטים החיים בתוכה, כמו גם את התקשורת וקשרי הגומלין ביניהם.
הצוות המקצועי היינו צוות מגובש של עובדים סוציאליים, פסיכולוגים ופסיכיאטרים, כולם מומחים מן השורה הראשונה. צוות זה מטפל במגוון בעיות וקשיים המתגלעים בתא המשפחתי.
מדיניות המכון הייתה מאז ומתמיד לאפשר טיפול ברמה מקצועית גבוהה לכל הפונים וזאת באמצעות סבסוד מחיר עלות הטיפולים. רמת הסבסוד איננה תלויה רק ברצוננו אלא בתמיכה הכספית שאנו מקבלים ונקבל, הן ממקורות ציבוריים והן ממקורות פרטיים. היקף הטיפול השנתי שלנו הוא כ- 3,000 שעות שניתנות שרות לכ- 320 משפחות. בשנים האחרונות רמת הסבסוד שהצלחנו לתת נעה בין 40% ל- 30%.
נוכח השינויים והתמורות המתחוללים בכל העולם המערבי ובחברה הישראלית בפרט (עלייה, אבטלה, ריבוי משפחות חד הוריות), הולכים ורווחים המשברים המשפחתיים הזועקים לפתרונות טיפוליים, ובדחיפות. הגישה המשפחתית של "שילוב" הצליחה לחזק משפחות במצוקה במקרים רבים ובכך למנוע את פרוק המשפחה. מניעת יציאתם של ילדים ממשפחותיהם ואף לחזק את המשפחות שיש בתוכן ילדים בסיכון.
כיום פועלות 5 יחידות מיוחדות במכון, בנוסף לעבודה הטיפולית השוטפת:

g קבוצות העשרה לזוגות ולמשפחות
אנו עובדים בשיתוף עם הגורמים החברתיים וטיפוליים בירושלים: עו"סים בלשכות לשירותי רווחה, פקידי סעד, מרפאות לבריאות הנפש, השרות הפסיכולוגי, קציני מבחן, בתי ספר ובתי סוהר.
